Interpreting Pathways Track
The Third Annual Summer Symposium will be held at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts during the weeks of June 16 and June 23, 2008. All tracks are 9:00-5:00 Monday-Friday. This year there will be 3 Interpreting Pathways Tracks. They will consist of the following:
Discourse Mapping
"Oh, so that's what you MEANT!"Discourse mapping for dynamic equivalence in interpreting
Discourse mapping is a valuable tool in analyzing a source and a target message. Using this tool to create a representation of the function of the original message allows interpreters to produce a dynamically equivalent message in the target language. During this course, students will practice discourse mapping to identify and apply various features of discourse in ASL and English while constructing a natural, accurate and meaningful interpretation.
