| Laurie Shaffer, MS, CI & CT, earned her BA from Hamilton College with a major in Fine Arts. She went on to complete her masters in Education of the Deaf at Syracuse University. For 15 years, she provided interpreting services locally in Massachusetts and nationally and from 1997 to 2005 was coordinator of Services for the D/deaf and Hard of Hearing at Boston University and Director of the Boston University Center for Interpreter Education (BUCIE). Laurie is a founding member of the Conference Interpreting Mentorship Project, consultant to the Southeast Mentorship Project, and co-developer of the Peer Mentor Model. She now resides in rural Central Virginia where she is once again a freelance interpreter and continues to offer a variety of workshops and trainings for working interpreters. She is an interpreter educator, mentor, and life-long mentee. In all of her endeavors, she has strived to foster team-building, cross-cultural awareness, and collegial respect, creating positive change for the field. | |
