The Coordination team plays a significant role in coordinating the NCIEC programmatic work-teams, which are focused on identifying, establishing and disseminating effective practice-based products and resources. The work of the programmatic teams is paramount to achieving the goals of the RSA grant. The Coordination work-team is charged with implementing processes and practices to ensure effective communication, collaboration and information-sharing across the various programmatic work-team activities. Over the past seven months, the Coordination team proposed and implemented a number of time and cost-saving approaches to internal NCIEC communication, including streamlining and increasing the utilization of on-line office technology. The team also researched and implemented a standardized time-tracking system, which is currently being piloted by the Centers. In addition, through the Coordination team, NIEC maintained responsibility for enhancing and carrying out standardized accounting procedures for the NCIEC.

Membership of the Coordination team is comprised entirely of NIEC staff.

Needs Assessments
The Deaf Consumer Needs Assessment Report serves as a starting point for understanding the current and projected needs of deaf consumers as they relate to the availability, quality and overall use of interpreter services. The Phase I Deaf Consumer Needs Assessment effort was designed as only the first in a series of on-going activities planned by NCIEC to collect input from deaf consumers. The Phase II Deaf Consumer Needs Assessment is being conducted now across the country in face to face interviews with Deaf Consumers.


Effective Practices
The National Center is charged with a leadership role in identifying effective practices, both existing and those to emerge through NCIEC projects and activities. The goal is to identify effective practices and produce guidelines, benchmarks, milestones and assessment measures to guide others in future replications of, and improvements to, those practices.
