Mentorship 1: Interpreting
ASL3101 / 4 q.h.
Analyzes mentoring approaches in interpreter education in the U.S. Topics include definitions of mentorship, knowledge and skills needed by mentors, qualities of mentors and mentees, mentorship management, portfolios as mentoring tools, and approaches to mentoring in the U.S. Students will begin to develop the mentoring project they proposed during the application project, to be implemented during the final course.
Mentorship 2: Interpreting
ASL3102 / 4 q.h.
Builds on the information presented in ASL 3101 Mentoring 1, providing opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills developed during the first quarter. Students develop experience in mentoring language and interpreting, and build on their discussions and understandings of the mentoring relationship as they work together. In addition, students will continue to design and develop the capstone mentoring project to be implemented during the final course.
Mentorship Practicum: Interpreting
ASL3103 / 4 q.h.
Supervised mentoring experience with intensive application of mentoring skills. The course emphasizes practical application of mentoring through ongoing mentoring of interpreting and interpreting settings. It provides hands-on opportunities to assess, provide feedback, and receive feedback about both interpreting and mentoring skills. Students will finalize their mentoring project.
Mentorship Internship: Interpreting
ASL3104 / 4 q.h.
Implements a supervised mentoring project designed in ASL 3101, 2, & 3. Applies knowledge and skills acquired and integrates them with real-world experiences in mentoring. Projects are implemented in collaboration with student’s home or sponsoring region to provide mentoring in that area.
A minimum of 16 quarter hours is required to earn an Interpreter Education Master Mentor graduate certificate.
