Semantics of Fingerspelling (Dana Charles Hughes)
- This workshop focused on the semantic role of fingerspelling in ASL with attention given to ordinary and abstract nouns that are fingerspelled
- The major objective of this workshop was to explore ASL grammar in-depth and how fingerspelling has a role in expressing ASL grammar correctly
- List of fingerspelled words was distributed for study and usage.
Sports Signs for Dummies: Back in Business (David DelPizzo & Michael Schang)
- This workshop returned from its hiatus! It featured audience participation and involvement- especially when given the last shot to win the championship!
- This workshop was designed for those who are interested in gaining a better understanding of the sports dialogue in American Sign Language.
- The participants had the opportunity to learn more about sport signs, sports talk, and analyze this in ASL! The four major sports we will focus on are: Soccer, Football, Basketball and Baseball.
Understanding and Performing Magic in ASL (Sammy Ruiz, Jr)
- This workshop gave the history of magic and the evolution of Deaf Magicians.
- It involved the problem solving techniques included with doing magic.
- Participants learned simple and wonderful hands-on tricks!
- This workshop demonstrated how ASL is seen in various visual art formats such as theatre (e.g. Deaf West, Show of Hands, and in NTID), poetry (Ella Mae Lenz, Peter Cook, Clayton Valli), and how Deaf storytellers use their vast creativity methods in ASL.
- Explanation of the history of Deaf art, including the changes to Deaf art in the past, changes that are currently happening, and changes that may come.
