About Us

Northeastern University is pleased to be hosting the Teaching Interpreting Educators and Mentors Project (Project TIEM.Online). This project is supported by a grant from the Department of Education (H160C030001) for the period of October 1, 2000 to September 30, 2005.

Goals:
1. Develop and implement (via the World Wide Web) a pedagogically sound, thorough and in-depth curriculum designed to provide appropriate training for current and potential interpreter educators. This curriculum will consist of 12-15 graduate level courses and 15-20 modules for interpreting educators;
2. Develop and implement a pedagogically sound, well-designed interpreter mentor training curriculum, consisting of 4 sequenced courses including both knowledge and skills-based courses; teaching 3 consecutive cohorts of 20-25 interpreter mentoring students. Most of this curriculum will be delivered at a distance via the World Wide Web; one course has the option of coming on-site.

    3. Provide technical assistance to institutions, agencies, and individuals for training and implementing mentoring programs, and to provide technical assistance to interpreter education programs as well.
